Accupressure: What It Is and How To Use It To Your Benefit!

Happy Monday beauties! I hope you all had a great weekend. I also really hope you are able to see this post because we’ve been having serious technical issues on our end with servers and all that other techy stuff. I think it’s fixed now, but if not I promise I’m working as hard as I can to get things set right and have posts up for you guys!

Today I wanted to talk about Acupressure. As some of you may or may not know, I have a partially slipped disk between my 8th and 9th vertebrae. Basically, that means that the disk between my vertebrae has come out from where it’s supposed to be, which presses on nerves in my spine and back and causes pain. The pain can be almost unbearable if you don’t know how to treat it, or how to make it go away. I’ve been suffering from this condition for about 3 years now, and let me tell you, it’s no fun.

The biggest way that I made my back condition better was losing weight. I am still working on losing, however, I am down 50 pounds from when I first found out about my slipped disk, and it has made all the difference in the world. When I was heavier, I would have spasms (the terrible pain that comes with the slipped disk and can last upwards of 4 hours) usually around 4 times per week at my heaviest weight. Now that I am down 50 pounds, I have a spasm maybe once a month.

Although losing weight has helped tremendously with my back, that’s not what I’m here to talk about. We’re here to discuss Acupressure and it’s benefits on both a slipped disk and on normal, everyday back pain.

What Is Acupressure?

I’m sure most of you have heard about AcuPUNCTURE, which is the practice of inserting small needles into the meridian points on your back to aid in healing various mental and physical ailments. Acupressure, on the other hand, is using manual pressure on these same points in your body, the meridian points, to give the same effect without the needles.

History of Acupressure

Acupressure has been around since Ancient times. Over 5,000 years ago the Chinese discovered that pressing on certain points on the body relieved pain and benefited other parts of the body. In fact, during times of war, soldiers would report after being hit with an arrow or spear in a certain part of the body, an ailment they had previously struggled with was cured. And this way, Acupressure (and Acupuncture) were born.

How Can I Use Acupressure at Home?

Acupressure is a very safe and effective treatment that anyone can do themselves. There are a variety of products available for you to use, but I’m going to give you a recommendation for the best one on the market.

The Acupressure Mat and Pillow set that I use are from a wonderful company called White Lotus Anti-Aging, located right here in Germany. They sent me a set containing the Acupressure Mat and Pillow, and let me tell you, it feels AMAZING! In fact, the mat has even won awards (i.e the Vergleich products Awards, Germany 2016) because it is that good.

Tell me more! Tell me more!

The White Lotus Acupressure Pillow has 1,944 spikes and the mat contains 6,534 spikes which are designed to work as a set to give you the best Acupressure experience and the most relieve from your ailments. The spikes are meant to stimulate endorphins that will relieve stress, up your energy levels and relieve tense muscles. They can also help you sleep! The spikes are made from food grade plastic, to ensure your health and safety while using the mat. Both the Mat and Pillow contain memory foam, making them the most comfortable Acupressure products on the market.

How Do You Use It?

Included with the Mat and Pillow set is a page with instructions for safe use. All you have to do is find a comfortable, flat place to set out the mat and pillow (I use the floor, on a carpet). The first time you use it, lay on it for ten minutes holding as still as possible. Use it once per day, and as the days go by slowly increase the time until you reach 20 minutes per day. You’ll feel better in a week!
