A warning for Bloggers: Beware of this Company!

Today’s post is going to be a little bit different beauties. I’m going to be sharing my experience with SelfHosted LLC, and I hope you head my warning and proceed with caution if you ever come into contact with these people. I don’t want to bash this company, but I feel that I wasn’t given the service that I was promised. So, here we go.

I found this company through a website called The Blogger Programm. They had an advertisement up for free help with getting self-hosted in exchange for a testimonial on their website. Great, fantastic, let’s do this. Before I had the blog I have now, I was using a website called Wix to host my blog. I wasn’t very happy with Wix; the options for customization and things like that were sub-par, and I wanted to switch. My main points for switching were ease of access and I wanted a nice design for my blog. I contacted Self Hosted through their website, as was stated on The Blogger Programm. I received an email back on the 3rd of February, I believe I contacted them on the 1rst or 2nd, which seemed like a decent time frame for a reply. I’m not going to name names in this post, but I was in contact with a woman who worked at this company. We’ll call her Rachel for the sake of this post. Rachel emailed me and we began talking about what I was looking for in a blog and what the purpose of my blog was.

In the first few emails, she was trying to get me to sign up for a host that would end up costing me a ton of money, and I told her I would find my own solution, which I did. She then told me to start moving my posts from Wix to WordPress, after my husband had the preliminary template set up. I had to move all of the posts manually, meaning I had to copy and paste the text and then re-upload and insert all the photos. That was no fault of Self-Hosted or Rachel, it was the fault of Wix. Anyway, it took my a few hours but as soon as I finished I sent Rachel an email letting her know that I was finished with this process and we could proceed to the next step. I emailed Rachel on the 5th of February, and she got back to me on the 6th. In this email, she told me there was nothing else I needed to do, but she had some other things she was working on and would let me know when she could start on mine. Fine, all good, I understand.

I emailed her again on the 15th to ask her how long it was going to be before we could get going because I was posting on my Wix blog and here so I wouldn’t have a backlog of posts. Not that I really minded, but I wasn’t expecting to have to wait for that long. She replied and told me that she was busy with other people and she wanted me to have patience. Okay, I can do that. I sent another email on the 20th of MARCH, OVER A MONTH AFTER HEARING FROM HER THE LAST TIME, asking what the ETA would be because at this point I was thinking I should just do it myself and get my new blog published. She replied again and told me it would take about 2-3 days to complete, and that the week I had emailed her on would be a good time because “she didn’t have anything else going on”. She asked for the log in details so she could take care of the design, which we had previously spoken about, and I did as such. I was expecting a “design” to include the background of the page at least, and perhaps a header for the main page. Nothing too extreme. I logged in 2 days later and saw that the font had been changed, some of the buttons that my husband had placed there and a few widgets were missing. I emailed her and kindly asked why basically nothing had changed and why all my stuff was missing. She said she would replace what she had missed, but never said anything about the background. Once she had emailed me again to tell me she replaced the buttons and widgets, I asked her again if she could do something with the background as she had said she would do in our early emails. She said it would take another 2 days, but it was no problem. I had shown her my YouTube logo and asked if she could design something similar so I could have my blog and channel match. This was on the 30th of March. 2 days after that would be the first of April, correct? Let’s make sure I’m not crazy. A week later, on the 6th of April, I emailed her again saying that I was curious as to what happened to the 2-day timeframe she had given me. No response. I waited another few days, and finally, I got fed up. I sent her an email letting her know I wanted nothing to do with her services and changed all my passwords. I have yet to receive a response from Rachel or the company.

After all of this, I still have no design on my blog, and nothing to show for the work I put into my part of the process. I was left with nothing, and I feel cheated out of my time. I have now filed a complaint with the Better Business Buro, and I hope all you bloggers out there will heed my warning: Unless you’re a high-profile or “big” client, don’t expect much from these people. I feel scammed, but considering it was at no cost to me, I can let it go now that I’ve warned others about this gigantic waste of time. Thanks for reading if you made it this far, stay tuned for a regular post on Friday! XO’S
